About Fernando
This exciting artist born in El Paso, Texas is currently residing in Socorro, NM. Mr. Mercado resided in Oakland, Seattle, San Francisco and Santa Fe. He has studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, has been an illustrator with Boeing Aircraft Corporation, operated a gallery and received many awards. Mercado demonstrates equal skill in drawings, graphics, and woodcuts. his paintings are in private collections around the united States, Canada and Mexico, England, Japan and Australia.
When asked to describe his paintings, Mercado says,
Visually, most people would classify them as abstracts, but to me they are not: they are music that the scene or person transmits to me. Colors are used instead of notes, and they are arranged in rhythms, counterpoint - whatever musical terms you might put to them. I am not limited to the visual.
Mercado was classified as "one of the most exciting artists working in the San Francisco Bay Area, an area which was singularly rich in talent." while his works reflect an abundance of all the basic qualities that an outstanding artist needs, a sense of color, draftsmanship and a flair for composition, what truly sets Mercado apart is an electric imagination which is, in turn, mystical, spiritual, thoughtful and sometimes comic. And, it is this very element that sets the artist apart from the rest of society and separates this artist from his colleagues.
